Before trying this one out on your own, we’d definitely recommend chatting to your treating medical and/or allied health professionals. Get their thoughts on how to best introduce it into your rehabilitation treatment or everyday exercise plan.
A few of our contributors regularly use the Clock Yourself App to help with balance, coordination and movement initiation. It’s one of the neurological rehabilitation tools used by a popular FND-focused neurophysiotherapy clinics in Brisbane.
Clock Yourself was designed by an Australian physiotherapist to suit people of all stages of life. It was designed with advice from people with stroke, brain injury, Parkinson’s disease as well as fit and healthy athletes.
It’s low cost and you can use it on your mobile phone or a tablet. For a one off purchase of $2.99 with no in-app purchases, you can download Clock Yourself on Google Play or the App Store.
You can start off easy with a Simple Clock (right). Or you can try something more complicated with arithmetic, abstract symbols or foreign languages. You set the level of difficulty and can use just your feet, just your hands or a combination. If you have a fear of falling, you can select a half clock face shape. This allows you to hold on or have your hands ‘floating’ above a bench just in case you need to grab on for support.
Curious? Check out this YouTube video as there are so many ways to use Clock Yourself to improve your physical and cognitive agility.
