This month, Michael Romeo, the “FND Psych” will be joining our Toowoomba and North Brisbane groups via Zoom from Sydney.
From diagnosis to remission: a psychologist’s life with FND
Michael Romeo is a clinical psychologist who has been practising for over 20 years. In 2020, he was diagnosed with FND due to a functional gait disorder and functional seizures. Using his insights as a clinician and with the help of a multidisciplinary team, Michael has now been in remission for eight months.
In this presentation, Michael explains the biopsychosocial journey of FND, a model that is often inadequately described to people living with FND. Michael uses his story of recovery to illustrate the multidisciplinary treatment of FND, with special attention to the role of psychologists and the exciting field of virtual reality.
The Toowoomba group has been running since August 2022 and is a safe space to connect with other people with FND. The group meets for two hours and when there is a guest speaker, they are usually scheduled for the second hour.
People with FND, their family members and friends are always welcome, as are any people supporting them to attend.
If you do not have FND but would like to connect with our group, please contact [email protected] to make appropriate arrangements.
Please be mindful that all QLD support groups are run by volunteers who have FND and may have limited capacity for telephone calls. Sending a text message instead of calling is greatly appreciated.
